How do you approach exercise?  Do you make the time in your schedule to fit exercise in?  If so, what do you do and are you getting the results you want?  Since I was 14 years old I saw the value of exercise in my life.  I think the why you decide to exercise is a critical factor in getting you started and keeping you motivated.  As an adult it is very easy to live a busy lifestyle and for regular exercise to be squeezed out.  You’ve probably thought to yourself at times how you want to get in better shape, look and feel better, get more toned, have more energy, etc.

It takes intention to set yourself up for success, whether you are able to set a schedule and stick to it, find a friend to workout with or hire a trainer.  I’ve met with so many clients who say, “if you weren’t hear I wouldn’t be working out.”  Then after the workout they feel good from the workout and over time they get in great shape.

Through getting on a regular exercise program you can also get in great shape.  You can lose weight and reduce body fat, get your muscles lean and toned (reduce the flab), look and feel better, have more energy and stamina, fit into your clothes better, have better posture, increase your flexibility and balance, improve your performance in sports, reduce your stress, sleep better, feel more alive and vibrant, etc.

I have found that many people start off with a aesthetic goal.  They usually want to lose weight and tone up and get in “better shape.”  Once they start working out, they feel better and handle their stress better.  Exercise powerfully affects their minds as well as their bodies.  Their has been a lot of research about the mind body connection to exercise.  People experienced reductions in feelings of anxiety and depression from exercising.  Through exercising the body releases chemicals which help one to feel and cope with their life better.

My desire as a trainer is to help you thrive in your life, look and feel your best.  A safe and effective exercise program will be designed for you based on a fitness assessment focusing on your health and fitness goals.  Let’s do this together:)



Youth Training

Do you want to get into better shape for a sport?

Are you motivated to exercise and do you enjoy it?

There are so many reasons why a child or teen would exercise.  These are just some of them.  A trainer can help them get on a specific program tailored to their goals and needs that is fun and safe.

Growing up in the Bronx, my cousin and I spent a lot of time together.  At 14, he said, how about starting to exercise, “You’ll look good for the girls?”  Something in me just clicked.  I moved my brothers bench and his plastic weights filled with sand into my bedroom and I set up a pull up bar.  I started doing push ups and sit ups and worked out in school with the weights.  I got really into it and had my friends come over on the weekends and work out with me.  When I became 15 1/2, my brother asked me if I wanted to join Metrofit, a gym a few miles away.  I went with him and his friend John.  John taught me how to workout.  Within 3 weeks I was designing the training programs.  We worked out for a year or so and then my best friend Adam and I worked out.  He was captain of the football team.  I designed all of our workouts.  Working out as a child set me up for the rest of my life.  I’ve been working out since I was 14 years old straight and now while I’m writing this I am 45.

When I was looking for schools to go to, I thought I was going to become an accountant like my dad.  I went to Buffalo University to take a look at what they offered.  They offered a degree in Sports and Exercise Science, which I was very interested in.  Through one of my 4 internships I was at a fitness center where I taught a youth strength and conditioning class.  When I came out to Los Angeles I trained a number of children in their homes and at health clubs.  One kid I worked with from 10 years old to 18.  I got him on a great strength and conditioning program, played a lot of different sports with him, and went hiking and to the beach together.  I helped him a lot with his eating encouraging him to eat healthy and worked very closely with his mom to help her son eat well.  I have found children respond very well to a trainer to exercising and eating habits and maybe not so well to their parents.

I think it is so important for children to exercise and eat right.  Many children unfortunately don’t exercise and/or eat right and don’t live the lives that they can.

Children can:

  • look and feel better
  • increase their strength
  • increase the stamina and endurance
  • perform better in sports
  • feel better about themselves and their body’s
  • decrease their weight and reduce their body fat if necessary (break the cycle early)
  • set up great lifetime habits
  • learn how and be encouraged to eat healthier

A trainer can be a great support system for helping a child get on an exercise program and healthy eating plan.  They can take the child through a comprehensive fitness assessment and have a fun, safe and effective exercise program designed for them tailored to the child’s health and fitness goals.

Jonathan Rose wants as many people as possible to reap the amazing benefits of exercising regularly and eating healthy.  He provides people with exercise programs that are specifically designed for them to set them up for success to get on a well rounded exercise program helping them:  get stronger, more flexible, reduce weight and body fat if needed, improve posture, improve balance, mobility and agility, as well as stamina.  

Since 1992 he has been training children, adults and seniors to help them get in their best shape.  He specializes in working with seniors and people with Parkinson’s. He is very concerned about older people getting regular exercise so they have the strength, mobility and balance to live their lives and to decrease their vulnerability to falling.  He also trains caregivers and family members to help incorporate exercise in the people they are taking care of.  He develops programs for people who have Parkinson’s to manage and reduce their symptoms and teaches the caregivers and family members to help manage as well.  He teaches them exercises and stretches to do.  

Jonathan has a degree in Exercise Science and is a NASM Master Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Senior Specialist, Weight Loss Specialist, and Behavior Change Specialist.  He is also a Corrective Exercise Specialist in The Biomechanics Method as well as has two certifications by Gary Gray, Certification in Applied Functional Science and 3D Maps.
